Lesson 12 Breaking Addictions

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice, originating in India. Yet, to get the benefits of this practice, you can still meditate in the Kundalini style without being a master. Simply practice your breathing exercise every day and learn about the energy centers of the body. Hold an image in your mind of these centers as you breath and relax.

  • Continue this cycle of breathing throughout the predetermined mediation time.
  • Kundalini energy, as we learned, lies dormant at the base of our spine.
  • This is simply because you’re doing things you’ve never done.
  • You can choose to sit on a wool or cotton blanket or put a pillow underneath you for comfort.

If we are willing, we will over time experience inner power and peace. Breath of Fire is a great navel breath as is the 4 Part Energizing Breath which I covered in our very first lesson. Do this 3-5 minute exercise 3 or more times a day, especially at moments when you are being pulled to a compulsive, addictive behavior. We can use our addictive tendencies as a path to empowerment.

The Foundations of Kundalini Meditation

Even when Kundalini evolved from meditative teachings to include physical practices (yoga), it remained unknown outside of these select teachers and students. In its early stages, Kundalini was a private philosophy. Only students who had spent years studying meditation and spirituality were given the opportunity to learn from addiction meditation kundalini Kundalini teachers. “Kundalini” is a Sanskrit term meaning “coiled,” and it refers to a specific type of meditation that’s believed to have the ability to fully awaken your potential for awareness. We’re dedicated to sharing « the mindful life » beyond the core or choir, to all those who don’t yet know they give a care.

  • While further research is needed, the current studies suggest that yoga and meditation may bring the parts of the brain that are affected by PTSD and addiction back to a normal state.
  • Balancing the glands in this area helps to break those patterns.
  • In more modern terms, yoga and mindfulness emphasize a healthier way to cope with triggers and deal with emotions you may have been avoiding.

You must also tend to the psychological reasons why you would begin abusing drugs or alcohol. Dry addictions such as overeating are often related to emotions as well. It is imperative to look within and acknowledge the reasons for your abuse and ultimately your addiction. Maybe weight and food problems are not really about food and weight. Maybe we should start out by loving our bodies as they are. Maybe addictions are about taking back our power from those forces and « authorities » who we have let manipulate us.

Choose a Mantra

I say minimize the damage and do your best to keep your body at peace without ingesting the known addictive foods – refined sugar being on the top of the list. One way to cultivate a relaxed abdominal area is to practice long deep abdominal breathing. Lie on your back, place your hands on your belly, let your inhale push your hands up and exhale relax the hands back down.

The problem with bad food is that none of our needs are satisfied including the one for food. This is a serious problem even for those of us who try to eat a healthy diet. Remember – relaxing our belly is critical for the proper application and effectiveness of rootlock. With a relaxed belly, the Kundalini and sexual energy is able to flow up the spine. 7) Continue a steady rhythm of the mantra in the same rhythm as the locking alternate back molars, eyes rolled up and in.
